New Tribal Council Sworn In

December 6, 2011

The newly elected Tribal Council for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan was sworn into office today by Tribal Court Judge Filkins at the General Council meeting at 9:00 a.m. As Ordinance 19 dictates, Tribal Council began nominations for Executive seats. Dennis V. Kequom, Sr., was sworn in for his second term as Tribal Chief by Judge Filkins and then Chief Kequom took over the duties of swearing in his fellow Executive Council.

Julius Peters won the position of Tribal Sub Chief; Louanna Bruner became the Treasurer; Lorna Kahgegab Call was elected Executive Secretary; Ron Nelson is now the Sgt. At Arms and Steven Pego will serve as our new Chaplain. "I wish we had sixteen seats on Tribal Council that way everyone who won and has served these past two years could serve." stated Tribal Chief; Dennis V. Kequom, Sr., just prior to the previous Council stepping down to allow the newly elected Tribal Council take their seats.
