The Environmental Specialist, Sally Kniffen, manages the overall environmental program through the EPA GAP grant.Â Funding is used to provide for Tribal capacity building and to insure an environmental presence on tribal land.
Craig Graveratte ,Environmental Response Program Specialist
Craig works with environmental, planning, and operational staff on various tasks that help protect the environmental resources within the boundaries of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Reservation.
Carey Pauquette, Water Quality Specialist
in the Planning Department. Carey oversees the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Water Act Section 106 Grant (CWA 106) for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.
Rick Meyers, Recycling Coordinator
Rick Meyers is the SCIT Recycling Coordinator. His efforts throughout the reservation helps to divert over 365 tons of material from landfills annually.
Water Resources Technician
Michael Fisher is the Water Resources Technician. He assists the Water Quality Specialist to preserve, protect, and manage all tribal surface water. Michael spends the majority of spring and summer implementing the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) by scientifically monitoring water quality within reservation boundaries. He is responsible for collecting and analyzing all water quality samples, including E. coli with the help of a team of interns from the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College. After sampling season, Michael is responsible for statistical analysis of all data and compiling this information into the Water Quality Assessment Report. All data collected by SCIT is uploaded to EPAâ€™s Water Quality Exchange (WQX).
The Water Quality Program is proud to participate in many community events, especially when there is an opportunity to educate people on the responsibility we all share in protecting water resources. The team has delivered presentations to a variety of audiences, and the program has educational material appropriate for all ages.
